Texas Christian University’s baseball team stayed alive in the College World Series on Sunday with a 4-3 victory over Virginia in Omaha, Nebraska.

The loss eliminated the Cavaliers and sent the Horned Frogs (43-23) to a Tuesday game against the loser of a Sunday night game between Oral Roberts and Florida. ORU defeated TCU, 6-5, on Friday night.

TCU finished with 12 hits and benefitted from clutch pitching against Virginia.

Frogs pitcher Ben Abeldt struck out Virginia’s Anthony Stephan swinging in the ninth to end the game.

“We have each other’s back every day and just proved it out on the field,” Abeldt told ESPN after the game.

ORAL ROBERTS 6, TCU 5

TCU lost to Oral Roberts, 6-5, in its first game of the CWS on Friday night.

Blaze Brothers hit a three-run home run in the ninth inning to propel ORU, the lowest-seeded team to make the CWS field since 2012.

ORU qualified for its first trip to Omaha in 45 years.

The homer was Brothers’ first since May 24.

“It was like slow motion,” Brothers said in a news conference after the game. “Right when I felt it off the bat it felt pretty good, and I saw the left fielder kind of turn around, and I was, like, ‘Oh, that ball’s out. Let’s go.’ I just wanted to get around the bases to celebrate with the boys.”

TCU had runners on first and second with one out in the bottom of the ninth against ORU pitcher Cade Denton but could not score.

“You’ve just got to give credit to Oral Roberts where credit’s due,” TCU coach Kirk Saarloos told reporters after the loss. “They’ve done it — I watched them in the postseason. They’ve come back. They’re a resilient bunch, an old group. And they put a great swing on the ball in the ninth. But I wouldn’t change anything. I thought our guys played with great effort, great grit. It just stinks sometimes somebody’s got to lose a game like that.”
