Dallas Cowboys fans must wait until Thursday night to find out the NFL team’s 2023 schedule.

Until then, they can chew on this little nugget from the league earlier Thursday.

The NFL season will kick off at 7:20 CT on Sept. 7, with the Detroit Lions visiting the Kansas City Chiefs.

As the defending Super Bowl champion, the Chiefs were expected to play in the opener. Every Super Bowl champion in the last 20 years has been scheduled for the first game.

The Lions, who have not played in Kansas City since 2003, were the surprise. Detroit was 9-8 last season and has not won a season opener since 2017.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was NFL MVP and Super Bowl MVP last season. He led the Chiefs to a Super Bowl 57 victory over Philadelphia, 38-35. The Chiefs rallied from 10 points behind in the fourth quarter with Mahomes playing on a sprained ankle.

Few leaks have come out this week about the Cowboys’ schedule. USA Today reported the Cowboys would play the San Francisco 49ers in Week 8 and the Washington Commanders in the traditional Thanksgiving Day game at Dallas on Nov. 23.

The scheduled release will be telecast live on ESPN at 7 p.m. CT on Thursday.
