Dallas-based real estate firm All Star Home tested AI generators to determine what the “typical home” looks like in all 50 states and the 30 largest cities in the country and what the median home value of that home would be in 2023.

AI has taken the world by storm in 2023 and is quickly changing the landscape for how businesses, research firms, universities, and other institutions perform tasks otherwise done by humans.

Expressing imagination through art has always been an innately human characteristic, but with the onset of generative AI, computers can now produce all kinds of images with astonishing detail and accuracy.

However, artistic depictions using generative AI do not always hit the mark — such is the case with what AI thinks the typical Dallas home looks like.

Generative AI thinks the typical Dallas home has a cottage-style design built with German and European influence that one might see in a small English village. The home features an arched entryway, a decorative façade with dark natural wood trimming, small rectangular windows for natural lighting, carved shrubs, and a paved pathway to the entrance separated by a neatly manicured yard.

All Star Home’s report shows the AI-generated property would have a median home value of $230,000, well below the median sale price of $418,000, according to data from Redfin. To determine what each AI home would sell for, All Star Home pulled the median home value in each state and city to “provide a lens into what these homes may potentially cost if they were for sale in your neighborhood.”

Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Fort Worth, and El Paso were also included in the report. For Houston, the generator created “a beautiful brick house with a cobblestone-style design on the front. The house also has a lush green yard with a flower bed surrounding the front of the home,” the report says.
