Even though Purva Jain of Purva Design Studio works all day long with blueprints, textiles, flooring, lighting, and construction materials, she shares that her job centers around people and making connections.

“I love designing every aspect of the built environment — architecture, design, furniture, products, events — all of it! When you create a shared space, so many memories are created and cherished between family, friends, and complete strangers. It is the connection that people have with a designed space that makes it so special,” Jain explained in an interview with The Dallas Express. 

Learning from leaders within the design industry, Jain has designed residences and commercial spaces in Dallas and for properties internationally. Her eye for what is simple, classic, and unique turns any project into an energetic, welcoming, and relaxing atmosphere that clients love.

Jain, who hails from India, said she owes her inspiration for building and design to her parents, who helped her pursue her dreams and first introduced her to the design field.

“When I was in 4th grade, my parents moved to a new house and underwent a major remodel. I would attend their design meetings, which included architects, designers, and general contractors,” said Jain.

“This is where my calling towards the field began. I was intrigued and fascinated by the process of design and build.” 

Specializing in interior residential and commercial design, Jain considers every project a learning opportunity. While she describes herself as a “modernist at heart,” it’s essential for Jain and her team to make their clients’ dream homes a reality. 

“I don’t like to force my thoughts on our clients’ dreams; our job is to make it a reality in the best way possible,” said Jain. 

Before establishing her design studio, Jain studied architecture in India. She then studied at the Pratt Institute in New York City and worked with industry leaders Robert Stern and Dallas’ Richard Davis. 

“My favorite part of my job has to be seeing the rough concept or idea — [from] sketch to implementation and construction — come to life. No feeling compares to seeing a project completed,” explained Jain. “The expression on clients’ faces when they see their dream project is priceless!” 

As the principal architect, Jain leads, manages, and supervises all activities related to the design of the buildings and structures. However, she has many other people that make up her team.

“We have a high-growth organization and work on every project as a team,” Jain said. “Our goal is to learn from each other and evolve together constantly.”

Jain herself has evolved as she transitioned from employee to self-employed. While the struggle was real, she insists she would not be where she is without the mistakes she made along the way. 

“I was wearing multiple hats; marketing for new projects, account payment, collections, research, customer service, and on top of that, being the principal architect,” Jain exclaimed. “There were many learning curves and mistakes made, but that is how I learned and grew.”

In addition to her team, Jain works with many different contractors so that she can offer the best options and pricing to her clients. By being unbiased, she can lobby for her clients during the project process and focus on the “style of structure.”

Jain’s work can be found in the Preston Hollow, University Park, and Highland Park communities in Dallas and other parts of the United States and the world. As Jain guides Purva Design Studio into its next phase, she says many exciting opportunities ahead for her clients, including bringing them into the virtual world.

“We are working on how we deliver design. Clients will soon be able to ‘physically sit’ in their virtual house using Oculus, [a virtual reality headset],” Purva said.
