A local designer whose work in menswear has garnered national recognition is set to open his first store in the competitive New York City market.

Daniel Mofor, the founder of the Dallas-based custom and ready-to-wear menswear label Don Morphy, was born in Cameroon. He came to America at 18 for a better life and more opportunities.

“When I came to America, I went to school in Houston. … I graduated and got a job in Arkansas at Walmart headquarters. I was a computer engineer,” said Mofor, speaking to The Dallas Express.

However, Mofor did not come all the way from Africa to become a computer engineer. He was dreaming of other things.

“Fashion is what I’ve loved all my life. I love dressing up. I love making other guys look nice. I love fashion,” Mofor explained passionately.

Mofor worked at Walmart for 13 years — until 2017 — before quitting his job and moving to Dallas to start his own fashion brand, Don Morphy.

Mofor has since grown his fashion business into a powerhouse in the Dallas fashion industry. His designs have made heads spin, so much so that his newest Don Morphy location will be opening up in what is presumably the fashion capital of the United States, New York.

Mofor has dressed stars, including Emmitt Smith, T.D. Jakes, Dwight Howard, and many more.

His keen eye for talent, coupled with his unwavering dedication, has propelled the brand to new heights, establishing it as a recognizable force in the fashion world.

As the owner of Don Morphy, Mofor has played a pivotal role in shaping the brand’s identity and positioning it favorably in the industry.

Mofor was honored as a “Rising Star” in menswear for 2018 and 2019, winning the prestigious award from Fashion Group International in 2019.

“When I won the nationwide event, that was the first time a Dallas-based designer had ever won that event, and the award was given to me by Tommy Hilfiger, which is big,” said Mofor. That was a defining moment for me.”

In his acceptance speech, Mofor said, “It is a great honor and a dream come true to win the Rising Star Award. It’s great to see that the passion and hard work is definitely paying off. I hope that it will not only boost the morale of my business, but also make Don Morphy a household name,” according to a press release.
