Louise Lorraine Lastelick

FEBRUARY 3, 1934 – JUNE 23, 2021

Louise Lorraine Lastelick, beloved sister, aunt and daughter, passed away on June 23, 2021. She was 87.

Lorraine was born in Kansas City on February 3, 1934, to Joseph Lastelick and Louise Stella (Gorman) Lastelick, but resided in Dallas for most of her life. She was known for her embracing smile, her witty personality, and her entertaining and friendly nature.

She attended St. Edward’s for elementary school and was a proud graduate of Ursuline Academy. Fondly known on campus as Alice, she was a cheerleader and an accomplished accordion player. Lorraine graduated from St. Paul Hospital School of Nursing and Texas Womans University, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing as well as a Master of Science in Nursing with a specialty in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing. Lorraine was also a Doctoral Student candidate at TWU with a Major in Adult Education.

After earning her master’s degree, Lorraine taught nursing at the University of Southwestern Louisiana at Lafayette before returning to Dallas. Her nursing career spanned 43 years, encompassing a variety of assignments including neurosurgery, general surgery, psychiatry and others in a variety of locations.

After Lorraine retired, she delighted in volunteering at her longtime parish, St. Thomas Aquinas, planning weddings and assisting with bridal preparations. She was a devoted volunteer for the Diocese of Dallas, working tirelessly in the Archives. In 2012, Bishop Kevin Farrell of Dallas awarded Lorraine the Bishop’s Award for Service to the Church, an award that gave her great pride.

Lorraine was an avid traveler and enjoyed visits to the Holy Land and to the holy site of Medjugorje. She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and a member of The Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Mary Immaculate #1719. She treasured her family in Dallas as well as her large extended family in Kansas City.

Lorraine is preceded in death by her parents and by her sister-in-law Bettye Jo Lastelick. She is survived by her brother, Jerry; her niece, Karen (Marie) Lastelick Higginbotham, and her husband, Tim Higginbotham; and her nephew Joseph Jerome (JJ) Lastelick, and his wife, Jane; her great niece, Hattie Louise Higginbotham, and her great nephews Joseph Knox Higginbotham, Tanner Reece Lastelick, Trevor Brennan Lastelick, Luke Meade Lastelick, and Ryan Robert Lastelick.

The family would like to thank Mary-Pat Smith, RN, Eric Markinson, Chaplain, and the CC Young Hospice Team for their care of Lorraine this past year. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Louise Lorraine Lastelick Scholarship Fund at Ursuline Academy, 4900 Walnut Hill Lane, Dallas, TX 75229, or to the charity of your choice.
