Leavitt, born August 24, 1997, in Atkinson, New Hampshire, is the youngest person to serve as White House Press Secretary. She previously worked as an assistant press secretary in President Trump’s first administration from 2019 to 2021.
Her family background is rooted in small business. She is the youngest of three children of Bob and Erin Leavitt. The family owned an ice cream stand in Atkinson, and her father operated a used truck dealership in Plaistow. Leavitt graduated from Saint Anselm College in 2019 with a B.A. in politics and communication, becoming the first in her immediate family to earn a college degree. She played softball on scholarship and interned at Fox News during the 2016 election.
In 2022, Leavitt ran for Congress in New Hampshire’s 1st District as a Republican, winning the primary but losing the general election to incumbent Democrat Chris Pappas, reported C-SPAN. She later served as press secretary for Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign and as a spokeswoman for MAGA Inc.
Leavitt married Nicholas Riccio, a real estate developer from New Hampshire, in January 2025, according to People. Riccio is 32 years her senior. The couple welcomed their first child, son Nicholas “Niko” Robert Riccio, on July 10, 2024, per the same outlet. Leavitt has described balancing her high-profile role with motherhood, often crediting supportive family and workplace policies.
In a December 2025 Instagram post announcing the second pregnancy, Leavitt called the baby girl “the greatest Christmas gift we could ever ask for” and thanked President Trump and Chief of Staff Susie Wiles for fostering a “pro-family environment in the White House.”
Leavitt is reportedly a practicing Roman Catholic who has spoken about the importance of faith in her life. Her rapid rise in Republican politics, from Trump administration staffer to campaign spokesperson to the briefing room podium, has drawn attention for her youth and communication style.
As Leavitt prepares for her daughter’s arrival, her office continues its daily operations under the current administration.
