President Donald Trump issued a Lunar New Year message on Tuesday, wishing millions of Asian Americans and others worldwide a prosperous Year of the Horse.
The White House statement highlights the ancient holiday’s themes of family, reflection, and renewal, and connects the horse’s symbolic traits to American values.
“Today, I send my best wishes to the millions of people of Asian heritage in the United States and around the world observing Lunar New Year and celebrating the Year of the Horse,” Trump said.
The President called the celebration “an ancient holiday marked by thanksgiving and joy.”
Trump noted that tradition associates horses with “momentum, vitality, passion, freedom, and adventure — traits that our Nation has embodied for 250 glorious years of American independence.”
Trump linked these qualities to what he termed “America’s Golden Age.”
The message acknowledged global celebrations featuring fireworks, festivals, music, and feasts that strengthen community bonds. Trump also recognized “the contributions of many legendary Asian Americans for their contributions to our culture, our prosperity, and our way of life.”
“As family, friends, and communities gather to welcome the start of Lunar New Year, the First Lady and I join in wishing you a year filled with health, happiness, good fortune, and peace,” the President concluded.
The Year of the Horse begins February 17, 2026, marking the start of festivities across Asia and diasporic communities worldwide.
