President Donald Trump announced Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz requested to “work together” on the ground, just hours after he said Border Czar Tom Homan was coming to the state.
Trump said Walz was “happy” that Homan would be coming to Minnesota in a Truth Social post on January 26. The President cited “tremendous SUCCESS” with federal deployments in Washington, D.C., Memphis, Tennessee, and New Orleans, Louisiana.
Earlier that morning, Trump announced that Homan is planning to arrive in Minnesota the night of January 26.
“He has not been involved in that area, but knows and likes many of the people there,” Trump wrote. “Tom is tough but fair, and will report directly to me.”
Homan received the Distinguished Rank Award from the Obama administration in 2015 for his work with ICE. He went on to serve as ICE director from 2017 to 2018, and he now serves at the White House as the Border Czar.
Trump is sending him to Minnesota the day after Border Patrol agents shot and killed a man in Minneapolis, as The Dallas Express reported. Officials with the Department of Homeland Security said the shooting was in self-defense.
The National Border Patrol Council suggested the shooting was likely justified, citing extensive training on the use of force, and blaming “shameless politicians” and “fake and dishonest media” for amplifying a dangerous narrative.
“We have pleaded with and warned the media and the politicians that their irresponsible, hate-filled and false rhetoric is going to get people unnecessarily hurt, or worse, killed when they portray our agents and officers as the aggressors,” the council posted. “When a supposed ‘peaceful’ protester brings a weapon (such as a loaded handgun) and brandishes it, there are going to [be] severe consequences and repercussions.”
Omar played into the polarizing narrative, quick to label the shooting “an execution by immigration enforcement,” saying federal agents were trying to “beat us into submission.”
In the same post as Trump announced Homan’s visit, he said the “DOJ and Congress are looking at ‘Congresswoman’ Illhan [sic] Omar, who left Somalia with NOTHING, and is now reportedly worth more than 44 Million Dollars.”
Trump also announced a “major investigation” into the “massive 20 Billion Dollar, Plus, Welfare Fraud that has taken place in Minnesota, and is at least partially responsible for the violent organized protests.”
In November, investigative journalist Christopher Rufo uncovered that Somali networks in Minnesota were funneling tens of millions of public welfare dollars to the terror group al-Shabaab, as The Dallas Express reported at the time. In December, YouTuber Nick Shirley took to the streets of Minneapolis – and found apparent widespread daycare fraud among Somali communities.
The Dallas Express found that Minnesota lawmakers had been warning bureaucrats about daycare fraud for months, only for whistleblowers to face, allegedly, silence and retaliation.
Omar was born in Mogadishu, Somalia, and came to America with her parents when they were granted asylum in 1995, as The Dallas Express reported. She first joined Congress in 2019, swearing her oath of office on the Quran.
For years, Omar has denied allegations that an ex-husband was actually her brother, whom she allegedly married to ease his entry into the United States.
Trump posted on Truth Social on November 27, suggesting the congresswoman “probably came into the U.S.A. illegally in that you are not allowed to marry your brother.” The same day, he called to “denaturalize migrants who undermine domestic tranquility, and deport any Foreign National who is a public charge, security risk, or non-compatible with Western Civilization.”
