When DHS law enforcement officers tried to arrest an illegal alien in Minneapolis, another individual approached U.S. Border Patrol agents with a firearm, leading an agent to fire defensive shots, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
DHS law enforcement officers were trying to arrest an illegal alien wanted for “violent assault” in Minneapolis around 9:05 a.m. January 24, according to the Department of Homeland Security. During the operation, another individual approached U.S. Border Patrol agents armed with a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun.
“This looks like a situation where an individual wanted to do maximum damage and massacre law enforcement,” DHS officials posted on X.

Officers reportedly tried to disarm the suspect with the gun, but the suspect allegedly “violently resisted,” according to DHS officials. They said more details on the struggle were “forthcoming.”
“Fearing for his life and the lives and safety of fellow officers, an agent fired defensive shots,” DHS officials posted. “Medics on scene immediately delivered medical aid to the subject but was pronounced dead at the scene.”
Investigators found the suspect had two magazines and no ID.
Soon after the shooting, roughly 200 “rioters” arrived at the scene, then began to “obstruct and assault law enforcement.” So officers used crowd control measures to contain the situation.
“This situation is evolving, and more information is forthcoming,” DHS officials posted.
U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minnesota, called the shooting “an execution by immigration enforcement.”
“I am absolutely heartbroken, horrified, and appalled that federal agents murdered another member of our community,” Omar posted on X. “It is beyond shameful these federal agents are targeting our residents instead of protecting them.”
Omar claimed President Donald Trump’s administration was trying to “beat us into submission” by violating “constitutional rights.”
“Their presence is terrorizing our communities, violating rights, and taking lives with zero accountability,” she posted.
The National Border Patrol Council, however, suggested the shooting was self defense.
“We have full confidence that when more facts are revealed, our agents and officers will be shown to have utilized justifiable force in eliminating the threat,” the council posted on X. “Border Patrol agents are trained extremely well to protect themselves, their fellow agents, and innocent third parties.”
The council blamed “shameless politicians” and “fake and dishonest media” for encouraging these attacks.
“We have pleaded with and warned the media and the politicians that their irresponsible, hate-filled and false rhetoric is going to get people unnecessarily hurt, or worse, killed when they portray our agents and officers as the aggressors,” the council posted. “When a supposed ‘peaceful’ protester brings a weapon (such as a loaded handgun) and brandishes it, there are going to [be] severe consequences and repercussions.”
