King Charles III and Queen Camilla landed in Washington, D.C., on Monday, April 27, to begin a four-day state visit to the United States at the invitation of President Donald Trump.
The visit, the first state visit by a British monarch to the U.S. since Queen Elizabeth II’s trip in 2007, comes days after the third attempted assassination on President Donald Trump, which occurred at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner on April 25, as The Dallas Express previously reported. Buckingham Palace confirmed the trip would proceed as planned following security discussions.
According to the official Royal Family X account, the King and Queen arrived “on the advice of His Majesty’s Government, and at the invitation of The President of the United States.” The four-day program includes stops in Washington, D.C., New York, and Virginia to mark the 250th anniversary of American independence and to highlight shared prosperity, security, and historic ties between the two nations.

Buckingham Palace stated on April 26 that the visit would go ahead after consultations on both sides of the Atlantic, Reuters reported.
A palace spokesperson said: “Following discussions on both sides of the Atlantic through the day, and acting on advice of Government, we can confirm the state visit by Their Majesties will proceed as planned. The King and Queen are most grateful to all those who have worked at pace to ensure this remains the case and are looking forward to the visit getting underway tomorrow.”
The timing raised questions about security in light of the recent incident involving suspect Cole Tomas Allen at the Washington Hilton, DX reported. Multiple outlets reported that palace officials reviewed arrangements but decided to maintain the original schedule.
This marks King Charles’s first state visit to the United States as monarch, though he has visited the country approximately 19 times previously in various capacities before ascending the throne.
The itinerary is expected to include a meeting with President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, a formal State Dinner, and an address to Congress.
