Former U.S. president and current candidate Donald Trump’s campaign has reportedly received a substantial influx of donations and new volunteers in the days following his indictment by a New York grand jury.

Senior Trump aide Jason Miller claimed the ex-president’s 2024 campaign raised $7 million in three days following his indictment in Manhattan, per CNBC. The indictment marks the first-ever criminal charges against a former president and includes 34 counts accusing Trump of falsifying business documents.

Over 16,000 people signed up to volunteer on Trump’s website in the first 24 hours after the announcement of his indictment, per Business Insider.

Following his indictment, the campaign sent out fundraising emails asking for donations to stop what Trump called a “witch hunt,” per Business Insider. Miller commented that “there’s a whole new group of Trump supporters who are angered by what they see as this political persecution,” per Fox News.

Both Republicans and Democrats are aiming to boost their fundraising by utilizing Trump’s indictment. In an email from his campaign on Thursday, U.S. Senator J.D. Vance (R-OH) urged fans to donate as a way to “step up for President Trump and put America First,” per USA Today.

The Democratic candidate for California’s upcoming open Senate seat in 2024, Rep. Adam Schiff of California, also sent an email on Thursday night requesting contributions “to help us prepare for Trump’s inevitable attacks — and ensure we defend the rule of law,” per USA Today.

Recent polls show Trump leading the potential Republican presidential primary field, which currently includes only him and a few other candidates. Ron DeSantis, Florida governor and Trump’s potential rival, is expected to announce his presidential plans next month after Florida’s current legislative session, per CNBC.

Asa Hutchinson, the former governor of Arkansas, announced this week that he would be making a bid for the GOP nomination as well, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
