Pauls Valley High School students crowned Principal Kirk Moore prom king Friday night, KOCO reported. They honored him days after he took a bullet to the leg while stopping an alleged gunman inside the school.

As previously reported by The Dallas Express, Moore confronted former student Victor Lee Hawkins, 20, during the April 7 attack. School surveillance video shows Hawkins entering the lobby, pointing a handgun at two students, and firing. Moore then rushed at him, tackled him, and disarmed him as the students ran away.

Another school official then entered the frame, kicked the gun away, picked it up, and took it away.

An Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation affidavit, cited by the AP, says Hawkins allegedly told investigators he went to the school planning to kill students, Moore, and then himself in a mass shooting “like the Columbine shooters did.”

KOCO reported that Moore appeared at prom Friday night, where students honored him by voting him prom king. Students cheered as a video shared on X showed Moore taking the crown.

Hawkins has pleaded not guilty and remains held on $1 million bond, the AP reported.
