The U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced this week that more than 2.5 million illegal aliens have left the United States since January 20, 2025, citing what officials described as historic enforcement results under the Trump administration.

According to DHS, the total includes more than 605,000 deportations conducted by federal authorities and approximately 1.9 million voluntary self-deportations since January. The agency said the departures reflect expanded immigration enforcement operations carried out by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

DHS reported that enforcement efforts since January 20 have also resulted in more than 595,000 arrests of illegal aliens nationwide. Officials said the agency has prioritized the removal of individuals with criminal records.

“The Trump Administration is shattering historic records with more than 2.5 million illegal aliens leaving the U.S.,” said Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Tricia McLaughlin. “DHS has deported more than 605,000 illegal aliens and another 1.9 million have self-deported. Since January 20, DHS has arrested more than 595,000 illegal aliens.”

DHS officials said voluntary self-deportations account for the majority of departures. The agency is encouraging illegal aliens to use the CBP Home app, which offers a free flight out of the country and a $1,000 stipend to those who choose to leave voluntarily.

The announcement credited President Donald Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem with directing enforcement agencies to carry out targeted operations focused on removing criminal illegal aliens.

DHS said the decline in the illegal immigrant population is already being felt nationwide, citing reduced strain on public services and changes in local job markets, though the agency did not provide specific data.
