A U.S. Navy service center in Bahrain has been “subjected to a missile attack,” according to a statement from Bahrain’s National Communication Centre carried by the state-run Bahrain News Agency (BNA).
“Further details will be provided in due course,” the statement said, without attributing the attack to any country.
“The public is urged to follow instructions issued by the relevant official authorities and to obtain information from official sources only.”
Bahrain hosts the headquarters of the U.S. Navy’s 5th Fleet, whose area of responsibility includes the Gulf, Red Sea, Arabian Sea, and parts of the Indian Ocean.
There was no immediate comment from the U.S. military.
Earlier, the U.S. Embassy in Bahrain warned American citizens to shelter in place amid reported threats involving missiles and drones over the country.
The reported attack was announced hours after President Donald Trump said U.S. forces had begun “major combat operations in Iran.”
This is a developing story.
