Newly unsealed court documents have confirmed that singer D4vd, whose real name is David Anthony Burke, is officially a “target” of a Los Angeles County investigation into the death of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez.
The legal update, which recently became publicly available through Texas appellate proceedings, comes from a series of subpoenas issued to the singer’s family members who live in the Lone Star State. The documents, dated January 15, now directly label D4vd as the “target” of the grand jury investigation, as first reported by the LA Times.
Prosecutors also claim that he “may be involved in having committed the following criminal offenses against the laws of the State of California, to wit: One count of Murder.”
As previously reported by The Dallas Express, Hernandez’s remains were discovered on September 8, 2025, in the trunk of a Tesla registered to D4vd. The car had been impounded at a Hollywood tow yard after neighbors reported a foul odor while walking by the vehicle. According to the filings, a black bag with decayed remains was found when investigators opened the trunk.
In September 2025, after investigators announced the young girl’s official death, LAPD homicide detectives searched a house linked to the singer and his management company. Roughly a month later, they discovered a “burn cage incinerator” at the musician’s former Hollywood rental house. There is no confirmation by police that the incinerator is connected to the case.
LAPD Captain Scot Williams has previously said that investigators believe the girl had been dead for several weeks, but also clarified that, contrary to some media reports or rumors, the body showed no signs of decapitation or having been frozen.
The subpoenas now require D4vd’s parents and brother to testify before the Los Angeles grand jury. A Texas judge denied a motion to quash the subpoenas, leading to the family’s challenge that made the previously sealed California documents public.
The 20-year-old musician, known for his eerie tracks like “Romantic Homicide,” canceled tour dates last fall after news went viral about the police finding Hernandez’s body.
Hernandez, from Lake Elsinore, California, was first reported missing in 2024 at the age of 14. Her body would be found the day after what would have been her 15th birthday.
No charges have been filed against D4vd as of press time.
