President Donald Trump invoked faith in Jesus Christ in a Reformation Day message Saturday, pledging to restore America’s religious foundations and defend believers’ place in public life.

His October 31 message greeted Christians observing the Protestant Reformation and its teaching of salvation by “God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ.”

“As President, I will always support citizens of faith and defend their place in the public square,” Trump wrote.

Trump credited prayer and belief in God with sustaining the country. He said Scripture helped shape the founding generation’s understanding of God-given rights and individual liberty. The message tied the observance to 250 years of American independence and honored churches’ role in strengthening families and serving communities.

Tyndale’s 500-year milestone

Reformation Day commemorates Martin Luther’s 95 Theses in Wittenberg, Germany, in 1517, according to the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.

This year also marks 500 years since William Tyndale published the first complete printed English New Testament in Worms in 1526. His translations later supplied much of the King James Bible, which appeared in 1611, according to a Library of Congress account.

Religious liberty in Dallas

The administration’s religious liberty efforts have also reached North Texas. Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick (R) chaired a hearing of Trump’s Religious Liberty Commission at Dallas’ Old Parkland on December 10, 2025, as The Dallas Express previously reported.

First Baptist Dallas Senior Pastor Robert Jeffress testified at that hearing, where witnesses described religious discrimination and proposed ways to protect the free exercise of faith.

“Religious liberty is not just another issue. It is the issue,” Jeffress told DX at the time.

Trump closed his Reformation Day message by encouraging Christians to seek renewed strength in Scripture and carry their faith forward.
