D.C. Mayor Complains About Migrants Coming from Texas, Arizona

Washington D.C.’s Mayor Muriel Bowser raised concerns over Texas sending busloads of migrants to the nation’s capital during a recent appearance on CBS’ “Face the Nation.”

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has been busing migrants to D.C. since April, when he announced that the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) would oversee the transport of migrants to the nation’s capital. Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey instituted a similar program a few weeks later.

“We are sending them to the United States Capitol where the Biden administration will be able to more immediately address the needs of the people that they are allowing to come across our border,” Abbott said when announcing the program.

A press release explaining the program clarified that only migrants who arrive at the border and are processed and released by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) would be offered a voluntary bus ride to D.C.

During the interview, host Margaret Brennan mentioned a Washington Post report that suggested D.C.’s homeless shelters are filling up with processed migrants being bused in from Texas and Arizona. Since April, the two states have sent at least 4,000 migrants to the nation’s capital.

Bowser acknowledged that was a “significant issue” while calling for a coordinated federal response to manage the migrants being bused in. She also expressed concern that some migrants are allegedly being “tricked” onto the buses.

“Well, this is a very significant issue. We have for sure called on the federal government to work across state lines to prevent people from really being tricked into getting on buses. We think they’re largely asylum seekers who are going to final destinations that are not Washington, D.C.,” Bowser said.

Bowser was further asked whether taxpayers on the local or national level are paying for the migrants to be housed in homeless shelters.

“Local taxpayers are not picking up the tab. They should not pick up the tab,” Bowser said. “We really need a coordinated federal response. We know that it’s done for refugees who come to the states from all points of the world, and the same has to be done in the situation.”

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) recently released its June monthly report, which revealed over 200,000 encounters with unlawful migrants along the southern border. That figure included over 15,000 unaccompanied children.

“Border communities are overrun and overwhelmed, and Gov. Abbott launched the border bus mission back in April to help provide support to these communities pleading for help where the Biden Administration is dumping migrants,” Abbott’s spokesperson Renae Eze said. “With our nation’s capital now experiencing a fraction of the disaster created by President Biden’s reckless open border policies that our state faces every single day, maybe he’ll finally do his job and secure the border.”

The mayor’s of DC and New York needs to talk to the mayor’s of small towns along the border. How can a town of 25,000 take in 2,3,4 thousand people. The huge cities need to deal with it

There are more than plenty green card immigrants here to do that, plus construction labor, and they cherish it. The problem is that you use this to justify the drug influx and child trafficking that the left condones that comes with open borders, but nice try.

Maybe your fat ass never worked on a farm, but my husband and I worked on dairy farms for years. We also worked with bees. You must one of the privileged few if you can sit your ass on a couch and still have the arrogance to judge other Americans. The only reason immigrants are used on farms is because they can pay them very cheap wages with no insurance or the same safety measures Americans demand.

I am so pleased that our governors did this. It’s about time the Washington high and mighty see just what it’s like in the real world.

Has it occurred to anyone that all we are doing is playing into the hands of the mastermind who is engineering our downfall as a society? We have been enticed to fight amongst ourselves and point fingers, ‘moving’ the problem to other areas of the USA (and then celebrating), while we continue to allow HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of ILLEGAL ALIENS (including felons and terrorists from all over the globe) to cross our southern border EVERY MONTH. How much longer do you think we can absorb this human offal before our country collapses? This isn’t’ some political game. This is the END of our civilization. This isn’t ‘Chicken Litte’ either. This is actually going to tip the scales and destabilize the USA to a weak point where we will have to capitulate to a greater power. You WILL lose ALL of your FREEDOMS on the ‘other side’ of what they are planning. Stop SPECTATING and call your representatives (local, state and federal) and DEMAND that they take ACTION to stop this. Do it now, or you will regret living in the horrific ‘new’ society they are devising.

Quite frankly, we need to get all the democrats out and then begin replacing the Republicans that have been in congress for years. The vast majority of all politicians in office more than a year or so are corrupt, no matter what side of the aisle they’re on.

Why should Texas have to take care of them??? These people need to come in legally if this administration isn’t going to enforce that then they need to be the ones dealing with it

Federal funds come from local taxpayers. I agree that many migrants should be assisted in leaving Texas and Arizona. This is a national crisis and all states should accept migrants into their communities – a version of “share the wealth”

What’s 4K? A good start! They might get the point if the numbers approach what’s happening at the border.

Let’s make DC a state so they can tax like a state and be represented like a state. Then perhaps they would have the resources for this issue. DC has more people than Wyoming and Vermont, but no state resources and its people have no votes in either house of congress.

No. There are good reasons the nation’s capitol is not in any state. People who want to change the foundations of our country, need to find one they like better, and stop screwing this one up.

So you really need to change your headline. This is not a complaint. She is discussing policy. Never did she moan about their right to seek asylum, as is the case here.
