Billie Eilish’s Hypocrisy: Open Borders For Thee, Locked Gates On “Stolen Land” For Me

Billie Eilish’s fiery Grammy Awards speech this past weekend, condemning ICE agents, has sparked an unexpected response: an Australian political activist is now crowdfunding a trip with the hopes of moving into her multimillion-dollar Los Angeles mansion.

The 24-year-old singer ignited controversy Sunday when she accepted the Song of the Year award and declared, “Nobody is illegal on stolen land… F*** ICE.”

Her virtue signaling did not go unnoticed, as her statement quickly backfired when critics pointed out that her multimillion-dollar mansion sits on land belonging to the Tongva tribe (an indigenous group from the Los Angeles Basin).

Australian activist Drew Pavlou has taken Eilish’s words at face value, launching a fundraising campaign to travel from Australia to California and set up his own residence at her property.

Pavlou’s fundraiser reads as follows:

Billie Eilish announced at the Grammys that no human being is illegal on Stolen Land. I am therefore raising funds to fly to America and move into her $6 million Malibu mansion. Everything here is completely and totally legal, I am just going to set up a tent on her driveway and I will leave when they formally ask me to leave. Please donate to help with travel and filming costs.

After GoFundMe deleted his first fundraiser when it reached $3,000, Pavlou moved his campaign to GiveSendGo, where he’s raised more than half of his goal to cover travel and filming costs.

The online stunt by Pavlou puts a critical spotlight on Eilish and her lectures to Americans about borders and “stolen land,” especially when she actively enjoys the protection of her own borders, including her gated mansion, as many have pointed out on social media.

Political commentator Eric Daugherty was among the first to call out the contradiction. “She could also graciously host illegal aliens in her mansion. After all, she has the moral high ground…” he wrote on X.

British journalist Julia Hartley-Brewer summed up the frustration many feel about celebrity activism in general, writing: “The woman is a blithering idiot. Of course, if she really means it, then she’ll happily hand over her multi-million pound Malibu beachfront home to illegal migrants… Which she won’t, because it’s all just silly celeb posturing.”

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis also criticized the pop stars grammy speech, suggesting that if land was truly “stolen,” Eilish should lead by example and relinquish hers.

A GB News reporter visiting Eilish’s mansion this week attempted to gain entry, calling out: “Billie, let us in, please. We are here because this is stolen land.” Receiving no response from behind the gates, he quipped, “According to the driveway, Billie does believe in borders.”

A spokesperson for the Tongva tribe has since confirmed the singer’s home sits on their “ancestral land,” though Eilish has allegedly not reached out to any representatives of the indigenous tribe, according to the Daily Mail.

Billie Eilish’s net worth is estimated at $70 million as of early 2026, according to Celebrity Net Worth.
