Disney’s ABC has pulled Jimmy Kimmel Live! from its lineup indefinitely following widespread outrage over comments the comedian made about the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.
The network confirmed the move in a statement to the BBC, saying the program would be “pre-empted indefinitely.”
Kimmel had opened Monday’s broadcast by suggesting the man accused of murdering Kirk, 22-year-old Tyler James Robinson, was part of the “MAGA gang.”

“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” said Kimmel.
Kimmel then mocked President Donald Trump’s grief, saying it was “not how an adult grieves the murder of somebody he called a friend.”
“This is how a 4-year-old mourns a goldfish,” Kimmel added.
The remarks drew swift condemnation. Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr accused Kimmel of making “an intentional effort to mislead the American people” and called his behavior “some of the sickest conduct” he had seen from a television host.
Carr warned that the FCC could take additional action if broadcasters failed to respond.
“Look, we can do this the easy way or the hard way. These companies can find ways to change conduct, to take action, frankly, on Kimmel, or, you know, there’s going to be additional work for the FCC ahead,” he said, per Fox News.
His call prompted Nexstar Media Group, one of ABC’s largest affiliates, to pull the program as well.
Andrew Alford, president of Nexstar’s broadcasting division, said Kimmel’s comments were “offensive and insensitive at a critical time in our national political discourse,” stressing that they did not reflect “the spectrum of opinions, views, or values” of local audiences.
“Continuing to give Mr. Kimmel a broadcast platform in the communities we serve is simply not in the public interest at the current time, and we have made the difficult decision to preempt his show in an effort to let cooler heads prevail as we move toward the resumption of respectful, constructive dialogue.”
The Dallas Express has reported extensively on the accused shooter, 22-year-old Tyler James Robinson, including the identification of his roommate, Lance Twiggs.
