Despite opening less than a year ago, two CosMc’s locations in North Texas have closed.
CosMc’s is the beverage-focused spin-off of fast food giant McDonald’s. Last year, The Dallas Express reported that the Golden Arches franchise planned to open its trimmed-down line in North Texas, including locations in Dallas, Fort Worth, and Allen.
Now, less than 12 months in, McDonald’s says it is shuttering two locations in the region.
CosMc’s is a small-format restaurant that serves drinks, like the Churro Cold Brew Frappe, and small treats, like savory hash brown bites and McPops. When it initially opened in Dallas on Preston and Campbell, it drew a large crowd of curious customers. The Dallas Express was on hand at the time of the grand opening to sample the pricy yet tasty menu.
CosMc’s employs a futuristic theme, inspired by a former McDonald’s mascot by the same name, who appeared in ads decades ago. The first location opened in December 2024 in Bolingbrook, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, quickly followed by nine locations in early 2024 in Texas.
While McDonald’s did not specify the closed locations, both the Watauga CosMc’s on Denton Hwy as well as the Arlington one on E Abram St are now both listed as “Permanently Closed” on Google.
A third location in the Lone Star State, outside of North Texas, is also expected to shutter.
Despite the closures, Allen is still set to open a CosMc’s at 861 W. Stacy Road, across from the Allen Premium Outlets. McDonald’s says the closures are part of its concept testing with various sizes and formats and do not necessarily reflect the brand’s economic prospects. The fast food chain plans to continue testing the concept and iterating as it learns what works best.
According to a Google Maps placeholder, another location could also open at 1795 U.S. Highway 380 in Frisco, though no official announcement has been made yet.
