An older man is fighting for his life after being discovered unresponsive in a pond behind his Colleyville home on Sunday morning.
First responders made the discovery while helping his wife, who had fallen in a nearby pasture.
Colleyville police and fire crews responded to the 5000 block of Fry Lane around 10:30 a.m. The initial call requested help for an older woman unable to get up after falling in a back pasture.
While assisting the woman, first responders discovered her husband in a nearby pond. Crews immediately pulled the man from the water.
Paramedics transported him to a local hospital in critical condition. The temperature at the time of measurement was 15°F, with a “feels-like” temperature of 3°F.
“No further details will be released at this time,” said Mark Cantrell, representing the department, per Fox 4 KDFW.
Authorities have not released the couple’s identities. The circumstances surrounding how the man entered the water remain unclear.
Officials provided no information about how long the man had been in the pond. The timeline of events leading to both emergencies has not been disclosed.
The Colleyville Fire Department continues investigating the incident. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
Firefighters in Lewisville pulled a woman from a frozen retention pond Sunday afternoon after she entered the water to retrieve her dog that had broken through the ice, according to authorities.
The incident unfolded around 3:10 p.m. at a pond at 2040 E. SH121 Business, where Lewisville Fire Department responders arrived on scene.
Officials reported that the woman ventured into the pond in an attempt to rescue her pet. She reached a depth of about chest to neck level, where the combination of water depth and frigid temperatures hindered her progress, preventing her from continuing.
A pair of Lewisville firefighters entered the water to assist her. Given the pond’s sharp embankment and slippery ice, the team employed ropes to hoist the woman back to the roadway. She was treated at the scene by paramedics.
Rescue personnel also aided a second individual who had gone into the pond to support the initial rescue effort. Rescuers were unable to retrieve the dog.
