Fairgoers will want to keep sunglasses, hats, sunscreen, and water bottles handy as they head out for the opening weekend of the Texas State Fair, as the weather over the next several days is expected to be dry, hot, and sunny.

The National Weather Service in Fort Worth said Thursday will be “unseasonably warm and humid.” High temperatures across Central and North Texas will be 10 to 15 degrees above normal, ranging from the low to upper 90s, but no triple-digit temperatures are expected on the day.

In DFW, the high is expected to reach 97 degrees.

When the fair opens on Friday at 10 a.m., temperatures will start off in a comfortable range, but as the day progresses, temperatures will creep into the upper 90s, with no cloud coverage expected. Overnight lows will be in the lower 70s.

The forecast for the rest of the weekend through Tuesday will basically be more of the same, with highs in the mid to upper 90s and overnight lows in the 70s. Sunny and mostly clear skies will be the order of the day.

“Expect breezy and occasionally gusty southeast winds each afternoon with low humidity, which may result in an elevated grass fire threat,” the NWS warned on its website.

The CBS First Alert 7-day weather forecast offers hope for a slight cool-down, with a high of only 91 degrees expected on Wednesday and a 20% chance of showers.

Drought conditions are continuing across the entire state of Texas, with the DFW area classified as having “extreme drought” conditions. The NWS predicted that the current El Nino weather pattern “may enhance precipitation amounts during the upcoming cold season, but the extraordinary deficits will take some time to reverse.”

However, the current sunny weather outlook is good news for the State Fair and its many vendors and attendees. The event at Fair Park runs from September 29 through October 22.

Attendees can experience “the most Texan place on Earth” and enjoy the many attractions, including live music, games, carnival rides, an abundance of fried foods, cold drinks, and the Texas Auto Show.
