Red Oak, Texas, officially opens its newly renovated Animal Care & Control facility on Friday, giving local families and pet lovers a modern hub for animal services in southern Dallas County.
The grand opening runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 409 W. Red Oak Rd. Events include a ceremonial ribbon cutting, facility tours, meet-and-greets with adoptable animals, and family-friendly activities.
The upgraded center features expanded space, a welcoming new lobby, modern kennels, a free-roam cat room, and improved play areas for pets and visitors. The renovation aims to enhance animal care, increase adoptions, and provide better support for lost, stray, and surrendered pets in the growing community.
Red Oak Animal Care & Control handles animal control, adoptions, spay/neuter services, and emergency response for the city. Adoption fees start around $40 and typically include spaying/neutering, vaccinations, and microchipping.
City officials encouraged residents to stop by for the celebration and see the improvements firsthand. The new facility reflects Red Oak’s commitment to responsible pet ownership and humane animal treatment as the area continues to expand.
This opening comes at a time when many North Texas communities are investing in better infrastructure for animal welfare amid rising pet populations and development pressures — challenges compounded by “petflation,” the sharp increase in pet care costs reported earlier by The Dallas Express.
U.S. pet owners faced an average annual spend of $2,360 per pet in 2025 — up from $2,086 the year before — with health-related expenses alone exceeding $1,100. Veterinary services have seen some of the steepest increases in the ongoing trend of petflation, even as the national pet industry is projected to reach $165 billion in 2026.
