Neighborhood Mired in Ongoing Water Issues

Residents of Frisco Ranch gathered at a municipal board room in Little Elm on Monday night seeking answers for water service issues that have been impacting their homes for the last 10 days.

Board members for Frisco West’s Water Control and Improvement District of Denton County (WCIDDC) explained the situation to the residents of the neighborhood located just north of Little Elm and south of the City of Prosper. The officials said that efforts are continuing to restore water pressure, reported WFAA.

On Monday, the Frisco West WCIDDC announced in a notice that it was still working to resolve issues creating minimal or no water pressure for Frisco Ranch residents.

Officials reported in the August 28 update that “multiple issues” affecting lost water pressure occurred in a short amount of time, including pump and electrical failures, district water line leaks, overconsumption, and more.

“Last week, we experienced the first water pressure incident, which was due to a software upgrade that caused communication issues between the hardware and the water operator. Our systems notify us through an alarm that water levels are low, and that the automated systems need to be turned off and the system needs to be managed manually,” the organization wrote in the update.

“This lack of an alarm is what caused the first water pressure issue.”

The organization reported that more recently multiple issues have arisen that have affected water pressure and have been difficult to diagnose, as the software and hardware involved appeared to be working.

Over the weekend, the department discovered a faulty power connection possibly caused by an issue such as a power surge, prompting them to use a generator for power.

“Today [August 28], we are making repairs to the electrical connections that we believe are the source of the issue. However, because the pumps need to refill the tank, restoring pressure will not be immediate,” said the organization in the update. “It will take some time to fill up the tank, which will vary based on on-demand consumption while the refilling is occurring.”

Officials promised that they were working diligently to remedy the situation.
