Lime, the “world’s largest shared electric vehicle company,” has officially relaunched e-scooters in the city of Plano some five years after their original launch.

Lime is one of many e-scooter providers that has recently returned to cities in the North Texas region. The company, along with Bird and Superpedestrian, relaunched its e-scooter program earlier this year in the City of Dallas after a two-year hiatus following a ban due to safety concerns, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.

Some Dallas officials recently suggested adding more bikes to the city, with others maintaining that some ongoing issues, namely citizens riding on sidewalks, needed to be solved first.

Lime launched up to 100 e-scooters in Plano this past weekend and plans to increase this number to 250 in partnership with the city.

Wayne Ting, CEO of Lime, said that the company has seen “strong performance” this year and that on a global scale, patrons have demonstrated a “strong demand for low-cost, reliable, and emissions-free transportation,” reported CultureMap Dallas.

“We are encouraged that cities also recognize this as they continue to welcome and expand e-bike and e-scooter programs globally,” said Ting, according to CultureMap. “Our year-over-year revenue growth and ability to operate profitably are strong signals for the long-term viability of Lime’s business.”

David Sedbrook, senior director of government relations at Lime, said he and the company are excited to bring a “global experience and stability” to Plano.

“Lime is excited to partner with the City of Plano to provide residents and visitors with a safe, affordable, and sustainable way of getting around town,” said Sedbrook, according to CultureMap. “We have a proven track record of success in Texas and we’re thrilled to add Plano to our list of Lone Star State cities.

“Shared e-scooters help connect people to existing transportation options and provide an economic boost by connecting customers to small businesses. We look forward to bringing our global experience and stability to Plano as we work with the city to envision the future of transportation together.”
