A Saturday morning crash on Interstate 30 in Arlington killed one passenger and injured two others after a four-vehicle collision involving an 18-wheeler, according to police.

The crash happened about 3:45 a.m. Saturday in the westbound lanes of I-30 between Cooper Street and Fielder Road, according to the Arlington Police Department, as reported by Fox 4 KDFW.

Police said the crash involved a silver Dodge Avenger, a white passenger sedan, an unoccupied vehicle parked on the shoulder, and an 18-wheeler.

A preliminary investigation found that the Dodge Avenger was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck the rear of the white sedan, according to police. The impact sent the sedan off the roadway, where it struck the parked vehicle.

The Dodge became disabled after the first collision and stopped across multiple lanes of traffic. Police said the westbound 18-wheeler could not stop in time and struck the Dodge, ejecting its passenger.

Paramedics took both occupants of the Dodge to local hospitals. The passenger later died, police said.

Officials have not publicly identified the passenger or the driver of the Dodge.

The driver of the white sedan suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital. The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured, according to police.

Police said the preliminary investigation suggests intoxication may have contributed to the crash.

Westbound I-30 shut down temporarily while officers investigated and crews cleared the roadway.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the passenger’s identity after relatives have been notified.
