The construction of a public safety annex in a North Texas city is scheduled to begin in April at one of the area’s newest master-planned communities.

According to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing, the estimated cost of construction for the Little Elm Public Safety Annex is $15 million. The project has an anticipated delivery date of June 2025.

“The Little Elm Public Safety Annex will be a combination of Fire Station #4 and a police substation, which will serve the residents and patrol beats in the northern part of the Little Elm community,” city spokesperson Erin Mudie said in an email to The Dallas Express.

“The Public Safety Annex will help the residents of Little Elm by increasing the staffing levels and reducing response times of our first responders — police, fire, and EMS — to northern and western portions of our town limits, including the rapidly growing Hwy. 380 corridor.”

Little Elm is just northwest of Frisco, on the banks of Lewisville Lake in Denton County. Its population is about 48,000.

The property will be built on Ryan Spiritas Parkway at Spiritas Ranch, a 545-acre community where more than 2,200 homes are being constructed.

“In addition to the … homes, the development will include a Denton ISD school and several other neighborhood amenities,” Mudie said. “The three acres needed for the Public Safety Annex [were] provided through a contract with the developer. A portion of the costs for the [annex] will be recovered through fees assessed on lots within the development.”

The remainder of the project is being funded through city-issued debt and fund balance, Mudie said. The city’s fiscal year 2024 budget is just over $145 million.
