Two boaters escaped uninjured after their vessel burst into flames on Lake Ray Hubbard Sunday afternoon, forcing them to abandon ship before fire crews arrived.
Dallas Fire-Rescue units responded to the boat fire at 4:44 p.m., according to department officials. Marine 1 arrived to find the vessel completely engulfed in flames with no one aboard.
The two occupants reported hearing a loud noise before flames began shooting through the boat’s floor. The occupants evacuated the vessel, and a nearby boater spotted the fire and rescued both people from the water.
Fire crews extinguished the blaze, but the boat sustained significant damage. No injuries were reported in the incident.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The damaged vessel was later towed to Terry Park for further examination.
Lake Ray Hubbard, a popular recreational destination east of Dallas, sees heavy boat traffic during weekend afternoons. The quick response from fellow boaters likely prevented a tragic outcome.
