A 36-year-old man was killed Sunday night after a crash involving a Ford pickup and an Infiniti led to a second collision on U.S. 75 in Richardson, police said.

The three-vehicle fatal crash happened at approximately 8:55 p.m. on August 30 in the southbound lanes of the 100 block of South Central Expressway near Belt Line Road, according to the Richardson Police Department. Officers responded after receiving several 911 calls reporting a major crash.

Police said preliminary information indicates a Ford pickup with a blown tire was traveling southbound at a slow speed in the left lane when an Infiniti sedan struck it from behind.

Both vehicles stopped in the left lane. The drivers of both vehicles and a passenger in the Infiniti then exited their vehicles, police said.

Man Killed Near Center Divider

A Volkswagen sedan approached the scene and took evasive action to avoid the two stopped vehicles, according to police.

The Volkswagen struck the Infiniti driver, identified as 36-year-old Michael Barrera, who was standing near the center concrete divider. Barrera was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Volkswagen also struck the Ford pickup and its driver. Paramedics transported the pickup driver to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The passenger in the Infiniti and the Volkswagen driver were not injured.

Special Crash Team Investigating

The Richardson Police Special Crash Investigation Team responded to the scene and will complete the investigation, police said.

The Dallas Express previously reported on a November 2024 chain-reaction crash on U.S. 75 in Richardson that killed three people and injured seven.
