When nonprofit Emily’s Place announced that Kevin Costner — John Dutton from the uber-popular series Yellowstone — and his Modern West band were coming to Emily’s Place’s gala, tickets sold out.

It was a good problem for the nonprofit organizers, but the Hyatt Regency Frisco-Dallas could not accommodate the overwhelming number of people who wanted to attend. Thus, a change of venue was in order.

The Emily’s Place 20th-Anniversary Gala will now be held at the Gaylord Texan in Grapevine, promising a night to remember for a much bigger crowd.

Emily’s Place is a nonprofit benefitting women and children who are victims of domestic violence, providing them a supportive community to live in for up to 24 months as they secure housing and achieve financial stability.

Each year the nonprofit raises funds to support the long-term care of its residents. The gala alone raises 70% of the annual budget necessary to offer programs such as trauma counseling, case management, transportation, childcare, advocacy resources, and financial and workforce education for victims of domestic violence.

“We are beyond thrilled and honored that Kevin Costner & Modern West will help us celebrate such a momentous occasion,” said Emily’s Place executive director Brynn Bruno via a press release.

Although known for Bull DurhamDances With WolvesTin Cup, and Yellowstone, Costner has played with Modern West for 15 years. The band has released several albums, including 2020’s Tales From Yellowstone.

Costner, who heard about Emily’s Place through a friend, wanted to perform with Modern West to help raise funds for the nonprofit.

The evening’s theme, “Black Ties & Grassroots,” pays homage to the nonprofit’s beginnings.

“The theme of Black Ties and Grassroots was chosen to honor the humble beginnings of Emily’s Place 20 years ago that began with $15,000 along with a hope and a prayer,” said gala co-chair Mark Hagan. “Today, we are a robust program spanning a campus with six buildings and incredible partnerships.”

The “Black Ties & Grassroots” Gala is set to take place on April 23, and will feature a cocktail reception, silent and live auctions, dinner, and Costner and Modern West’s live performance.

Tickets for the “Black Ties & Grassroots” start at $350. Patron tickets, sponsorships, and VIP meet and greets are also available.
