A new selfie studio has opened in Downtown Dallas, making for a fun experience for all ages.

Along with the new studio comes a new Dallas resident who is not letting retirement slow her down as she pursues her dreams.

Dorena Jones moved from Denver to Dallas in June last year to pursue her dreams of creating her own selfie studio.

The former salon owner and hairdresser of 26 years took a leap of faith after retiring and now owns “It’s a Selfie Studio” located at 2010 Commerce St.

Jones was nervous to branch out into a completely different field but says business has been good since the grand opening in February.

“I just have a thing for social gatherings. I love just getting friends together and having them enjoy space and time with one another, and I don’t think a lot of people do that,” she told The Dallas Express.

The roughly 2,220 square-foot building features over 20 different photo backgrounds and scenes set up for guests to snap photos in.

Jones passes out handheld devices that enable guests to take photos at the snap of a button using a Bluetooth connection. Guests place their phones on a selfie ring light before clicking on the handheld device for the perfect shot.

Also available is a separate device that moves in the direction of the guest for more flexibility in taking photos.

All sorts of events can be held at the studio, including birthday parties, baby showers, team-building events, and more. Jones also allows content creators to use the space for shooting.

Jones used her creativity and imagination when it came to decorating each themed space. The spaces vary in color and decor, with some examples of spaces including themes of holidays, name brands, and much more.

A graduation space and background will also be available for those soon-to-be 2024 graduates. She also plans on having holiday parties for anyone who wants to attend.

Decorating has been Jones’ favorite part in the entire process of creating the studio.

“I have a creative mind, and so I love decorating. I love changing out things [in the spaces], and they will change out often.”

The studio started a “Paint and Sip” monthly event where guests are given canvases to paint. On Wednesdays, owners can bring their vaccinated dogs to get their photos taken. Dog sessions are by appointment only.

Jones also plans on being a part of the Solar Eclipse Weekend in Downtown Dallas, among the many other events happening, by taking some pop-up booths mobile.

There are several different selfie packages available at the store. For events, guests are allowed to bring food and drinks, including alcohol.

“I’m looking forward to the space to be busier. I’m hoping this space can be a space for people to kind of gather more and make more memories,” Jones shared with The Dallas Express.

Jones hopes to open a second location in another city.
