USA Film Festival to Begin in Dallas

The USA Film Festival at Angelika Film Center Dallas begins on Wednesday.

The festival will take place from April 19 to April 23 in conjunction with Dallas Arts Month and Dallas Jazz Appreciation Month. Sammons Center for the Arts and Sammons Jazz are partnering with the festival to show films about the history of jazz.

Opening night on Wednesday will feature screenings of Carmen, Judy Blume Forever, and Chevalier. Carmen follows a young woman on the run from the police and a budding romance. Judy Blume Forever follows the author’s own coming-of-age story, and Chevalier is a film inspired by the story of the 18th-century composer Joseph Bologne. All screenings start around 7 p.m.

There will be four films shown on Thursday: Flamin’ Hot, Little Richard: I Am Everything, and Róise & Frank will begin at 7 p.m., and Black Moon airs at 9 p.m. There will also be a showing of narrative and student short films at 8:45 p.m.

Five films will be shown on Friday: The Pod Generation and Gold Run air at 7 p.m., while Master Gardener, Bonnie Blue: James Cotton’s Life in the Blues, and A Summer with Joe, Liz & Richard begin at 9 p.m. As on other days, a selection of showcase shorts will be shown. The shorts will begin at 7 p.m.

There will be six films on Saturday. Starting at 4 p.m., the Angelika Film Center will show Ellis, Silent Life: The Story of the Lady in Black Celebrating Terry Moore, and Munch. At 7 p.m., Hilma Great Director Tribute to Lasse Hallström and Reykjavík begin. The showing of Bruce and Alvin starts at 8 p.m.

Sunday will feature showings from Texas filmmakers, as well as short films and high school short films. Full-length films to be shown include William Greaves: Remembering an American Filmmaker at 3 p.m., Bully High at 4:30 p.m., Posey’s Playhouse at 5 p.m., and Tonic and Under the Influencer at 7 p.m.

Tickets to all of the showings are free, but a limited number of tickets are available. You can call 214-821-6300 to reserve tickets, or you may purchase tickets on the day of the showing at the front desk one hour before showtime.
