Plano’s St. Andrew United Methodist Church is holding a community benefit concert ‘United with Ukraine: A Benefit Concert’, to provide much-needed relief to the people of Ukraine.

“United with Ukraine: A Benefit Concert” will feature orchestral musicians across Dallas and Fort Worth. The event will include songs performed by Dallas and Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra members and St. Andrew’s Chancel Choir for an evening of musical solidarity.

The concert will begin with an orchestral performance of ‘The Great Gate of Kyiv’ and includes music selections from Dmitri Shostakovich, John Williams, Myroslav Skoryk, John Rutter, and more.

“It has been said ‘when words fail, music speaks,’ and this conflict in Ukraine has us all speechless,” Taylor Davis, Director of Music and Worship Arts, St. Andrew UMC, said. “My involuntary response, as director of music, is to gather musician friends and create unity and peace through art. Individually, we can’t change the world, but music can help change the molecules in the room, which can change hearts and minds across lines of division.”

“United with Ukraine: A Benefit Concert” will take place on March 21. The concert will start at 7 p.m., in the sanctuary of St. Andrew, 5801 W. Plano Parkway. Tickets are $25 and $50 with proceeds benefiting UMCOR, the United Methodist Committee on Relief, helping Ukrainian refugees with food, water, shelter, and other needs.

“Please join us for this special evening to lift up our brothers and sisters of Ukraine,” said Rev. Arthur Jones, St. Andrew UMC. “This is a unique opportunity for us to come together and raise funds for so many in harm’s way as we hold a vigil with music of hope, peace, and comfort.”

Last month the Dallas skyline lit up in solidarity with Ukraine. Dallas joined many cities worldwide by lighting up buildings, water towers, and courthouses in blue and yellow, the colors of Ukraine’s flag.
