A recent analysis of Reddit posts found that Texans have the biggest potty mouths in the nation.

BonusFinder did a deep dive to see which state’s residents were most likely to employ colorful language online. Dirty-mouthed Texans came out on top, averaging 6.9 curse words per Reddit post, according to the online casino search platform.

Coming swiftly on their heels were those gosh-darn residents of the Buckeye state. Ohioans logged 6.7 obscenities per post.

Rounding out the top 10 were the residents of Florida at 6.5 per post, Tennessee at 6.2, Missouri at 6.1, Iowa at 5.2, Indiana at 4.8, Louisiana at 4.7, Oklahoma at 4.3, and Idaho at 4.2.

On the other side of the spectrum, the residents of California were the least likely to use profanity on Reddit. This apparently clean-mouthed state averaged 0.2 curse words per post. New Yorkers and Washingtonians were similarly infrequent cursers, logging averages of 0.8 and 0.9, respectively.

BonusFinder’s analysis took into account 88 different profanities of varying intensity.

Some might not even warrant a bar of soap in the mouth, such as “hell,” “damn,” and “crap.” These tamer curse words ranked No.4, No.5, and No.10, respectively, in terms of expletives most frequently used in Reddit posts.

However, other popular swear words are arguably a bit more fiery.

“Sh*t” was by far the most used expletive, appearing in 19% of posts. The F-bomb and its verb form “f**king” tied for second place, sneaking into 14% of posts.

“A*s,” “s**tty,” and “bulls**t” also appeared as favorites, being dropped in 6%, 4%, and 3% of posts.

While Texans might come off as quite foul-mouthed on Reddit, another analysis recently published by Wordtips found that Georgia actually topped the nation for its residents’ use of profanity on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

Georgia residents logged a cussing rate of 48 per 1,000 posts, according to the study. For their part, Texans appear to be a bit tamer on X compared to Reddit, logging just 35 curse words per 1,000 posts.

Another analysis recently conducted by BonusFinder named Texas as the most haunted state in the nation. It found that Texas topped all others in terms of the reported number of ghost sightings (7,517 per 100,000 people), haunted locations (925 per 100,000 people), and paranormal investigators (158 per 100,000 people).

Perhaps this is why Texans curse so much.
