Live music is slowly returning after being mostly silent for a couple of years.

And while some people are cautious about attending events with large crowds, a unique entertainment company has discovered a way to host intimate concerts that give attendees a live music experience like never before.

Sofar Sounds is hosting 14 live concerts across the metroplex, consisting of three up-and-coming artists, each with their own genre of music. Music ranges from reggae and pop to spoken word and jazz. The twist is that attendees have no idea who they are coming to see or where the concert will take place until 36 hours before the doors open.

While the ticketholder has a general idea of the setting they will be in for the performance, such as whether the concert will take place indoors or outdoors, they are unaware of the type of venue and frequently show up at unexpected locations like a residential home, an art gallery, or a rooftop.

“The first time our guests are hearing of this artist is when they step on the stage to perform,” Regional Operations Manager Esther Calloway told WFAA.

Most concerts have fewer than 100 attendees, which allows for a more intimate outing. Those who attend are encouraged to bring a pillow or blanket to sit on, and most shows are BYOB and cell-phone free. For some shows, dogs are invited.

Secret shows are set for locations across Dallas, including for the remainder of the summer in places like the Bishop Arts District, Deep Ellum, Lakewood, The Colony, and the Fort Worth Cultural District.

“The point is to really bring magic to discovering new music and talent,” Calloway said.

Sofar Sounds is a global community that connects artists and audiences through live music. There are 400 cities where SoFar Sounds connect people with music. Tickets are available for a SoFar surprise event on the Sofar Sounds website.
