Rain is a natural storyteller.
Like a child, I have forfeited sleep to listen intently to her tales.
As a lover of life, I have added to her tears and danced freely in her puddles.
As a dreamer, I have seen reflections of what could be in her cascading crystal balls.
And as a weary traveler, I have yearned for the soft protection rain provides from daily noise.
God’s timing is upon everything.
Every drop.
Every detail.
There is a melody in the mundane just as much as there is a symphony in the magnificent. At times, both play simultaneously, and it is up to us to discern music from mayhem.
Other times, it is up to us to create the music.
To create… what a privilege.
We imagine so much more than we produce.
In the fields of blessings God has watered, what have we yielded of benefit?
Are we stingy, coveting godsends like they are perishable fruit?
Is a blessing multiplied, by its very nature, shared?
And yet, in a world impaired by misguided justification, the act of sharing is a risk.
Some take kindnesses given as entitlements.
They often expect more from others and less of themselves.
Hiding behind rants, they find their autonomy in chronic victimhood.
They stand in fields of prospects while labeling others un-Christian for not attending to their needs.
They are easily overwhelmed by dislike, mostly of themselves.
Still, we must strive not to become cynical from negative experiences.
Most have had such an experience. We cannot deny that such realities exist.
And yet, most have also experienced the humble gift of kindness from another, whether in deed, time shared, or simply a timely word.
Indeed, rain falls upon the just and the unjust.
All fields are eventually watered, but not all have seed. And not all fields that have seed will yield a healthful harvest.
We must tend to the field that God has given us with the measure of faith we have received.
We must put into practice obedience and trust God with the outcome.
In these efforts, the rain will be welcomed as growth often advances in storms.
One day, and into our yesterdays, the stories of rain will speak to the fruit worth sharing, simple kindnesses, and genuine sincerity.
Such reflections in the rain will cycle through seasons of bountiful blessings forwarded to others for the glory of God.
All for the glory of God.
