Festival of Joy:

Enjoy a millennium-old tradition at the Festival of Joy at Klyde Warren Park on Saturday.

The Festival of Joy, also called the Ratha Yatra Chariot Festival, is a colorful celebration with classical music and dance performances celebrating Indian culture.

The festival, described as a feast for all the senses and the soul, showcases traditional food, cultural exhibits, yoga, and meditation.

A free vegetarian feast will be provided by Kalachandji’s, a vegetarian Indian pub.

The festival begins at 11 a.m. and concludes at 6 p.m., and admission is free.

The event includes a parade along Flora Street, where participants will pull a colorful chariot to Klyde Warren Park, accompanied by the singing of ancient Sanskrit mantras and the sounds of traditional musical instruments.

The chariot is said to carry Jagannath, which in Sanskrit means “Lord of the Universe.”

The festival has been observed and celebrated annually for over 3,000 years in what is considered the holy city of Jagannath Puri in Orissa, India.
