Imagine a world without cameras. Hard to think of such a thing nowadays, but world-renowned silhouette artist, Lauren Muney, is preserving a snippet of that world with her hand-cut silhouettes.

The Baltimore, Maryland, native is coming to Grapevine Christmas Village to share her unique hand-cut silhouettes, which she creates using only her eyes, hands, paper, and scissors; no tracing, drawing, or machine needed.

Muney is one of only a few freehand-scissoring silhouette artists in the world.

Before the invention of the camera, this was a popular way for people to preserve images of their loved ones.

Muney is carrying on the tradition, creating silhouettes that are an “artisan reminder of history, of romance, of slower living…and family,” her website states.

Muney is self-taught and has traveled throughout the United States, Canada, Australia, and Europe, sharing her art at fairs, historical events, and museums, including George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate and The Smithsonian Institution. She is also a nine-time award-winning Master Traditional Artist.

Lauren Muney of Silhouettes by Hand will be in the Grapevine Christmas Village on Saturday, December 4, and Sunday, December 5.

To get one of Lauren’s silhouettes for yourself or as a gift for someone special, purchase tickets at the Grapevine, The Christmas Capital of Texas website, or by calling 817-410-3185.

Silhouettes are forty dollars for two copies and only take five minutes to create. Walk-ups are welcome if time permits. Cash and credit cards are accepted. Visit Grapevine, The Christmas Capital of Texas, now through January 9, 2022.
