The Mega Millions jackpot has jumped to over $1 billion after no winning tickets were drawn on Tuesday, August 1.
Mega Millions is a national lottery game played in 45 states, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Washington D.C.
It is also the only lottery game to have had four jackpots of over $1 billion, according to a press release. These wins occurred in 2018, 2021, 2022, and this year in January.
A fifth jackpot for over $1 billion is on the horizon as the game’s 30-day stretch of no winner continues.
The winning numbers for Tuesday’s drawing for $1.1 billion were white balls 8, 24, 30, 45, 61, and gold Mega Ball 12, according to a press release from Mega Millions. However, no winning tickets were drawn.
As such, the jackpot has risen to an estimated $1.25 billion with an estimated cash value of $625.3 million.
If won in the next drawing, this would be the fourth largest jackpot in Mega Millions history. The largest was for $1.537 billion to a player in South Carolina in October 2018.
“There’s always an air of excitement around the country when Mega Millions jackpots soar,” said Gretchen Corbin, lead director of the Mega Millions Consortium, according to a press release.
“The growing jackpot is a source of entertainment and winnings for players while generating important dollars for the good causes supported by each lottery. We are grateful for our players, appreciate our hardworking retailers, and remind everyone to play responsibly.”
Despite no winning tickets being drawn for the jackpot, seven second-tier prizes were drawn on Tuesday, with one of these winners being in Texas. Since the player had purchased a Megaplier, the winnings amounted to $4 million. Another Texas resident won the same prize in the drawing on July 25, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
Mega Millions has seen more multi-million second-tier prizes in Texas than in any other area, and the state was also the first to introduce the Megaplier option, according to the news release.
Other Match 5 winning tickets were announced in Massachusetts, California, North Carolina, Wisconsin, and New York.
The next Mega Millions drawing will be held on August 4.
