A new survey has ranked McDonald’s burgers over Whataburger burgers.

Eat This, Not That released the results of a survey that ranked the best fast food burgers in the nation. This survey was conducted considering factors such as accessibility, quality, ingredients, and taste, with the quality of meat being held as “paramount.”

Texas-based food chain Whataburger is on this list, but not where most Texans might think.

McDonald’s Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese is ranked at the top of this list of best burgers.

Authors of the survey praised the burger for its ingredient ratio as well as its availability across the nation and the world.

The fast-food chain currently features over 38,000 restaurants scattered across the globe.

Wendy’s Baconator, Hardee’s/Carl’s Jr. Super Star with Cheese, Culver’s Double ButterBurger with Cheese, and Five Guys’ cheeseburger ranked behind McDonald’s and made up the rest of the top five.

The eighth item on the list is Whataburger’s Double Meat Whataburger. The authors of the list did praise the burger for its “perfectly cooked meat,” size, and customizability, saying that the ratio between the bun and the ingredients is “unbeatable.”

Texas residents have long considered Whataburger a staple of Texas culture and cuisine, as the business was founded in Corpus Christi in August 1950. The chain currently features over 900 restaurants spread across 14 states.

“Whataburger is more than a burger chain. It’s a place that feels like home to more than 50,000 employees, called Family Members, and millions of customers,” said the company on its website. “It’s a brand built on pride, care and love. It’s a place people count on in their communities. It’s a place where goodness lives,” they continued.

The Dallas Express asked its own staff, Texas natives, and other citizens about preferences between McDonald’s and Whataburger, as well as the placement of other items on the list.

“Eating a Texas-made product reinforces your love of Texas and your pride of Texas,” said Joshua Carter, a reporter for The Dallas Express, with the utmost seriousness.

“Definitely Whataburger. It’s usually worth the 35-minute wait in the drive-thru,” said Dallas Express editor Charles Grand cheekily.

Other locals, however, believe that a potentially extended wait time may not be worth it.

“All of the others on the list are nice quick burgers, but Whataburger’s biggest setback is the time commitment,” said Grapevine resident Hunter Burcham. “For the time you set aside for Whataburger and the hefty price, you might as well go to a sit-down restaurant if there is any line at all.”

Avery Jackson, a former Texas resident, said that he prefers McDonald’s burgers to Whataburger’s, but The Dallas Express notes that the opinion of someone who would choose to leave Texas for another state is not to be trusted.

Still, Jackson said he was surprised Whataburger was ranked so low.

“While I prefer McDonald’s because of its ratio and price over Whataburger, I don’t believe Whataburger is that far behind. I would still put it in the top five behind Wendy’s, P. Terry’s, and In-N-Out,” Jackson said.
