A Dallas community has created a summer camp program for kids aged 8 to 18 years old who falls within economic guidelines.
The camp, known as the Dallas Champions Academy (DCA), is scheduled to run from June 27 to July 6.
The DCA has partnered up with the nonprofit Services of Hope to provide a place for “underprivileged youth” to learn the skills needed for a successful life.
Boys and girls from south and east Dallas are invited to apply. There is no charge to attend, and there are a variety of activities to enjoy.
DCA camp organizers created the program with two goals: to inspire and educate youth. Trust, discipline, hard work, and respect are the four core values of the camp, and the aim is to teach these principles to campers through various summer programs.
DCA attendees will have a chance to participate in sports activities hosted by university football coaches.
Students will hopefully gain a sense of direction and develop critical skills through motivation and hard work. Kids and teens are encouraged to learn communication skills through team-building while learning a new sport.
Students can also learn basic skills in critical areas such as money and finances. Mentors will teach kids how to make good spending decisions.
DCA said students could spend their summer gaining a sense of self while engaging in various activities that involve sports.
Adult mentors share stories to inspire students. Local and national leaders are invited to share personal stories with participants. These stories will outline their careers and provide direction for the participants.
Students can acquire skills in other areas while meeting other kids from the Dallas area. Life lessons are taught in a classroom setting while sports are played outdoors.
Campers that meet or exceed goals and expectations will be invited to a day called “The Day of Champions College Combine,” which will mark the end of camp.
Students can apply for college with assistance and explore financial aid options. Each kid will be paired with a college retention specialist who will guide them through the process and answer questions.
The DCA estimates that 70% of camp participants will go on to attend major universities across the U.S. Most could qualify for tuition assistance or even a full scholarship.
The camp will be held at 445 Masters Dr. in Dallas. Registration is free but required because of limited space.
Attendees will receive a complimentary breakfast and lunch upon registering. Families can bring a friend and register that person as a guest on the same form. You can sign up for the event online and reserve your spot.
