According to one magazine, Fredericksburg, Texas, is considered one of the best places to live or visit in the South.

This should come as no surprise to readers of The Dallas Express, as Fredericksburg was named one of the “Top Underrated Towns in Texas” in December.

Just a few days ago, Southern Living released its list of The South’s Best Small Towns.

Some of the 20 locations listed include Lewisburg, West Virginia; Easton, Maryland; and Pawhuska, Oklahoma, among others,

Coming in at No.4 on the list is Fredericksburg, Texas, the only Texas town to make the list.

“This Texas Hill Country treasure seamlessly blends its German roots with Texas traditions,” the magazine reads. “Grab a drink at a biergarten (including Altdorf Biergarten and The Auslander) or one of the local wineries (more than 100 and counting!), and peruse the town’s bustling Main Street and museums. If you’re up for a challenge, hike to the top of Enchanted Rock, a pink granite mountain less than 20 miles from town.”

Southern Living’s Editor-in-Chief Sid Evans said that the magazine wanted to highlight small Southern towns in particular for its list this year, according to KXAN.

“These are the hidden gems our readers picked for their character, charm, and unmistakable Southernness. We’re also thrilled to have Hoda Kotb sharing her longtime connection to New Orleans as a cover story. This whole issue is about the places we love, and in Hoda’s case, the city clearly loves her back,” Evans said, according to KXAN.

Beaufort, South Carolina, took first place in the list, followed by Williamsburg, Virginia, at No.2, and Fairhope, Alabama, at No.3.

Fredericksburg, Texas, is particularly famous for the National Museum of the Pacific War as well as the Enchanted Rock State Natural Area.

As far as larger cities are concerned, Plano and Frisco were recently considered to be among the happiest cities in America.

They were also recognized as being among the safest cities in the country, with McKinney also making the list, as previously reported by The Dallas Express. Low crime and fewer drug and alcohol-related deaths contributed to this honor.
