The 55th Annual Fashion Group International Scholarship Competition was held at Dallas Market Hall.

FGI is a global, non-profit organization with over 6,000 members in all areas of the fashion industry.

The organization provides a high-profile forum to promote the fashion business by hosting events that educate and facilitate the exchange of ideas by giving back to the community.

The scholarship competition, held on Friday evening, awarded more than $40,000 in fashion and merchandising scholarships.

The scholarships were awarded to outstanding college and university students across North Texas.

“It has been an extraordinary past few years as we have been challenged under the unprecedented circumstances of a pandemic,” said Nerissa Hempenstill, Regional Director for FGI Dallas, in a statement.

“FGI Dallas has been very proud to have continued awarding scholarships via virtual events in 2020, 2021 and 2022. In addition to monetary awards averaging $40,000 each year, the FGI Scholarship Competition awarded summer internships with local designers, as well as awarding industrial sewing machines and a study abroad opportunity with the Paris American Academy in Paris.”

The theme for this year’s competition is Fashion Forward: Motivating Minds in Design.

Students at the event learned from some of the fashion industry’s top professionals.

The event was not just about awarding scholarships to deserving participants but also showcasing what the students had made.

A fashion competition also occurred where students submitted designs and merchandising entries in four apparel and two merchandising categories.

The winners received scholarships ranging from tuition and expenses awards from $750 to $5,000.

Some of the awards that were given out during the event included the Fashion Excellence Award, with a prize of $5,000, the Couture Award, providing tuition and expenses to Paris American Academy, and the Director’s Choice Award, with a prize of $5,000.
