Oscar Mayer is turning their Wienermobile into a wedding chapel for couples to elope on Saturday and Sunday.
The “Wienermobile of Love” will be stationed outside the Little White Chapel in Las Vegas. The weddings will take place during 30-minute time slots, and couples were invited to sign up on the website on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Unfortunately, all of the slots have been booked. However, Wienermobile merchandise is still available for purchase online and includes whistles, plushies, and hats.
Couples often elope as a way to save money, and Las Vegas is a popular destination for doing so. The city is also well known for making the marriage process quick and easy, with some chapels staying open 24 hours a day.
“Now, as more people seek stress-free ceremonies with their partners, our Hotdoggers are thrilled to reignite the joy of this special day and give them a once-in-a-lifetime experience: a wedding through a pair of meat-colored glasses,” said Ed Roland, the senior manager brand communications for Oscar Mayer said in a press release.
Roland said requests for wedding services have long been popular among Wienermobile fans.
“From proposals and surprise meat-ups down the aisle to playing matchmaker to some of our own Hotdoggers, the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile has held a special place in fans’ hearts — so much so, we receive thousands of requests each and every year to be part of couples’ big days,” he said.
A 2022 survey of 1,000 engaged U.S. couples found that 62% were open to considering an elopement-style wedding. It also found that more women, around 69%, would consider this type of wedding.
The survey also found that the average wedding costs $33,204 and that 26% of couples determined that was too expensive.
Couples who believed the average cost was too expensive attributed it mainly to not realizing add-on costs and inflation, among other obstacles.
Considering the cost of a marriage ceremony and the fact many marriages last as long as hot dog does on the 4th of July, this plan sounds pretty good.
