February 22 is National Margarita Day, and local bars and restaurants will be celebrating with various specials throughout the day and evening. Like Jimmy Buffett says, “It’s 5 o’clock somewhere.”

There are many stories out there as to who invented the margarita: that unmistakable mixture of tequila, triple sec, and lime juice.

According to National Today, one popular story credits Carlos “Danny” Herrera for creating the margarita at his restaurant in Baja California, Mexico in 1938. It was reportedly made for Marjorie King, an American Broadway dancer, “because she was allergic to spirits but not tequila.”

Regardless of who invented it, the more immediate question is where can you get one… or two or three? We’ve got you covered.

If Mexican food is not your preference, Legacy Hall in Plano has plenty of food options to suit every taste and is open until 10:00 p.m. The food court will be offering a House Margarita for $5.78. If you want to try making your own margarita, you can register for the 6:00 p.m. “Shaken N’ Stirred” cocktail class. For $65 per person, the class includes a welcome margarita, the creation of two margaritas led by mixologists, a $10 gift card to Legacy Hall, and a goodie bag with barware.
