All may be merry and bright, but adding extra pounds due to holiday drinking may not be the gift you want this season.

While mingling this holiday season, some treat themselves to festive drinks without considering how many calories they are consuming.

Nicole Beard, 32, has added her own buzz on TikTok for sharing her photos and knowledge as to how much alcohol a person needs to consume to see weight gain, according to Newsweek.

Whether you are a beer or cocktail drinker, Beard has put together a video guide to become aware of how many drinks amount to added weight gain while you are entertaining this season.

“In order to gain 1 pound of fat, the average person needs to consume 3,500 calories more than their maintenance calories,” Beard shared with Newsweek.

Beard is applying “Wishnofsky’s Rule,” which says that “the caloric equivalent of one pound of body weight lost [or] gained will be 3500,” according to a 2014 study published in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

The study, however, argues that Wishnofsky’s Rule — which was first published in 1958 — “lacks a contemporary scientific foundation and leads to a large error in weight loss prediction.”

“Wishnofsky’s Rule as applied is inaccurate, leaving many counseled patients wondering why their prescribed weight loss is far less than expected even when they rigorously adhere to their dietitian’s recommendations.”

So, whether or not you are having tequila to celebrate, be sure to take Beard’s calculations with a big grain of salt.

Here is a tease of Beard’s compilation of the number of drinks it takes to gain one pound of fat.

26 medium glasses of white wine

36 glasses of champagne

15.5 passionfruit martinis

64 single vodka and Diet Coke

17.5 pints of Guinness

15 espresso martinis

25 bottles of Corona

15 pints of Heineken

66 shots of Sambuca

Some of the responses to Beard’s TikTok post are entertaining on their own:

“Is this including the Taco Bell I will picking up afterwords [smile emoji],” one reader responded.

“If I’m drinking 66 shots of Sambuca, I think a [pound] of fat is the least of my worries,” stated another.

“Sounds like a challenge,” said a third.

“[T]his is life changing information,” added a fourth.

Beard mentioned that the purpose of the video was to show that you can have a few drinks in moderation while trying to lose weight.

As a reminder, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is warning people not to drive under the influence and to exercise caution this holiday season as an estimated 84% of Americans are planning to travel over the holidays, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.

“Don’t turn your holiday event into a life-changing tragedy by drinking and driving,” said TxDOT executive director Marc Williams. “A safe and sober ride should be at the top of your list when making plans with family and friends. If not, you risk your job, your life, and the lives of others. It’s just not worth it.”
