The US Food and Drug Administration has notified the public that approximately 3,000 loaves of Nature’s Own Honey Wheat bread sold in six states are being recalled because of undeclared milk present in the bread. None of the affected shipments to Texas.

On December 20, 2021, the FDA said in a statement, “People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.”

The company that manufactures Nature’s Own bread, Flowers Food Inc., announced the recall after detecting that the Butterbread loaves which contain milk were accidentally packaged with the Honey Wheat packaging, which does not include milk in its list of ingredients.

The loaves of bread under recall were shipped to stores in Arizona, California, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, and Wyoming. To narrow it down, the cities where you may find the products are Blythe, Brawley, Calexico, Calipatria, El Centro, Needles, and Westmoreland in California. They may also be found in Laughlin, Nevada.

To identify the affected packages, each will display a yellow or blue tie and a “Best If Used By” date of 12-26-2021. Also printed on the packaging will be the codes 128 346 03:00 through 128 346 05:00.

The loaves impacted are:

  • Nature’s Own Honey Wheat Bread 20 oz. with UPC code 0-72250-03706-8.
  • Nature’s Own 2-pack Honey Wheat Bread 40 oz. with UPC code 0-72250-00539-5

Customers who find that their bread was recalled can return it for a full refund.

Just recently, several dry shampoos and dry conditioner sprays by Procter & Gamble were recalled in the US due to the appearance of benzene.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, long-term exposure to benzene can result in leukemia, which is cancer of the blood-forming tissues.
