Runners have been lacing up their tennis shoes to compete in the Cowtown Marathon since 1978. The next iteration of this annual event will take place the last weekend in February.

Some 5,000 runners are expected to descend upon the streets of Fort Worth to participate in the races, including the Ultra, Half, Healthy Hig Relay, 10K, Adults 5K, and Kids 5K events.

The Cowtown Marathon’s mission is to promote a lifelong love of healthy living for North Texas youth.

All marathon proceeds go towards the C.A.L.F. (Children’s Activities for Life and Fitness) Program, a non-profit charity that educates youth in North Texas about proper running techniques, how to measure their resting heart rate, and the importance of hydration, proper nutrition, and an active lifestyle.

Over the past eleven years, the C.A.L.F. Grant Program has helped to identify over 11,000 low-income children in schools and equip each of them with new running shoes and a grant to run in the Kids 5k. In 2020, the C.A.L.F. Grant Program awarded over 5,000 grants and 5,000 pairs of running shoes to local children.

As runners big and small come together for another year of healthy fun, the Cowtown Marathon will hold the Kids 5K Marathon, presented by Academy Sports and Outdoors, in a fashion similar to its 2020 event. With ongoing concerns surrounding the pandemic, the C.A.L.F program is exploring ways to hold the Kids 5K in a safe yet fun way that includes all the fanfare of the on-site run.

This year there will be untimed fun runs hosted at various schools throughout the district. Schools also can coordinate with C.A.L.F. staff to come to a run location for a fun run. As for timed runs, the C.A.L.F Program has teamed up with the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens to hold the Kids 5K.

For adults, The Cowtown Marathon will hold the 10K race at 7:00 a.m. and the 5K race at 8:30 a.m. Both races will be starting and ending at Will Rogers Memorial Center on Lancaster Avenue on Saturday, February 26, 2022.

On February 27, the Half Marathon, Healthy Hig Relay, Full Marathon, and the Ultra Marathon, presented by Miller Lite, will take place at the Will Rogers Memorial Center beginning at 7:00 am. The Ultra and Full Marathons are Boston Marathon qualifiers.

To get fans excited for race day, The Cowtown Marathon Health and Wellness Expo will take place on February 25 and 26. The free two-day event will include speakers, Cowtown Marathon merchandise, race-days fuel, shoes, and race accessories.
