Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas has been designated a Level I Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons. It has also been certified by the Texas Department of State Health Services. This recognizes the hospital’s almost decade-long strategy to provide advanced care to severely injured North Texas patients. Texas Health Dallas is included in the shortlist of 20 Level I Trauma facilities in Texas.

Being a Level I Trauma Center holds a lot of weight for Texas Health Dallas. The hospital provides 24-hour in-house coverage by trauma and general surgeons. It also covers specialties including orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, radiology, internal medicine, plastic surgery, oral maxillofacial surgery, and critical care.

Level I Trauma Centers, also known as Comprehensive Trauma Facilities, make it easier for patients who require complex trauma care to receive regional resources. They are verified by the American College of Surgeons and designated by the Texas Department of State Health Services.

Verified trauma centers have to meet the criteria of trauma care capability and institutional performance, which is outlined in the Resources for Optimal Care of the Injured Patient manual. According to the President of Texas Health Dallas, Jim Parobek, the designation took many years of preparation which included adding specialty services and medical staff physicians that provide those services to the community.

“As the only hospital in the northeast area of Dallas offering Level I trauma care, Texas Health Dallas will serve the critical needs of those in Dallas, Collin, Rockwall, and Hunt counties,” said Barclay Berdan, CEO of Texas Health Resources. “A traumatic medical event, be it a fall with brain injury or a major car accident, can be the most trying time of someone’s life. Our team will be standing by to provide quality clinical care when the community needs us most.”

Texas Health Resources is a nonprofit health system that cares for more than 7 million patients in 16 different counties. The health company has 28 hospital locations and currently staffs over 6,200 physicians.
